Gary Huck and Mike Konopacki,two towering fixtures of the labor movement, are genuine unsung heroes. One of the reasons they’re unsung is that no one can rhyme Huck and Konopacki with anything but obscenities or gibberish. Too bad; they certainly deserve a song. But that’s not my job. I’m just a writer, not a lyricist.

Instead, I want to tell you about my two talented, dedicated, and accomplished artist pals. Despite the fact that they often share the same beard, Huck and Konopacki are actually two different people. Mike is a kindly, casually-dressed, small-town Midwestern boy. Gary, on the other hand, is an acerbic, natty, big-city boulevardier. Unlikely? Yes, but together these two savage cartoonists provide you with qualities labor media too often lacks: emotion and tradition. Read their cartoons, and you’re practically smothered by the history and the spirit of labor. And more than a few laughs. In fact, when you read them be sure to take frequent breaths.
